Westfield Neighborhood Improvement Association April Meetup
Tuesday Apr 06, 7:30 PM
The Westfield Neighborhood Improvement Association is dedicated to all aspects of the quality of life in our community: neighborliness, attractiveness, relationships with elected officials, safety, zoning, traffic and more. We are diverse in culture and lifestyle and rich in talent: from artists to engineers; police and firemen to teachers — and supportive of our resident owners of businesses like electrical and construction contractors, landscape architects, graphic designers, restaurants and many more. We are singles and families of all age groups — with a new-resident trend of mid 20's through mid 40's.
Westfield is home to architectural styles from brick and stone Colonials to Bungalows and Cape Cods. Here are shady front porches with arched doors and stained glass windows casting colors onto hardwood floors. We have backyards and driveways you won’t find downtown! Some homes have been lovingly cared for through the years — and some newly-renovated with vision.
We welcome new residents! Click here to learn more About Our Neighborhood, including a list of Features & Benefits! http://www.meetup.com/WestfieldAssociation/about/

"Just to update from my last message. Again the smell started to seep into my home. I called the city once more and decided I needed to call the EPA and the City Health department. ... MoreSince then our system has been videoed and debris was found again and again in the Pinewood line. Cleaned again. My plumber has again cleaned my lines and finally so far things are better. Yesterday March 5th they were up the street at Pinewood and Sefton. I heard from a neighbor that the sewer line is broke. There is a metal plate in the street now so hopefully action was taken. I did my best to attempt contact with the TV stations and was told by the health dept that did come to my home I had called 33 times over the last several years all for the department of works. I also was lucky to talk extensively with the EPA whom sent reports to other agencies. Our city pipes are old and that is why I have tried to be patient over the past years. It is sad to have to go to such extreme measures to get action. On a positive note I must say they did continue to come every time I called even if the problem was not resolved. They continued to call my home to ask if the problem was resolved only to tell me to call again 311 if it was not. Our tax dollars could go allot further if the system worked more effectively. I think everyone of those trucks now knows about Pinewood Avenue. Only time will tell if my problem is resolved. "

"In two weeks you will be receiving a form from the Census Bureau to assist them in completing their count of the population of the United States. Here is why you should complete and return the form. ... MoreMike Hilliard - Director, Community Relations HARBEL Community Organization 5807 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21214 Web Site: www.harbel.org Phone: [masked], FAX: [masked] 2010 CENSUS: The Census: A Snapshot • The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years. • The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States: in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens. • The 2010 Census will create hundreds of thousands of temporary jobs across the nation. It’s in Our Hands: Your Participation in the 2010 Census Matters • Every year, more than $300 billion in federal funds is awarded to states and communities based on census data. That’s more than $3 trillion over a 10-year period. • Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build child-care and community centers. • Community planners and governments rely on census data to determine where there is the most need for additional social services and who gets needed funding, such as community development block grants. • Census data can help you estimate the number of potential volunteers in your community, the number of residents who may need your services, and can help in writing better proposals for grants. Completing the 2010 Census Questionnaire: Simple and Safe • The 2010 Census questionnaire asks only a few simple questions of each person—name, relationship, gender, age and date of birth, race, and whether the respondent owns or rents his or her home. This simple, short questionnaire takes just a few minutes to complete and return by mail. • The Census Bureau does not release or share information that identifies individual respondents or their household for 72 years. Why should members of community-based and social service organizations participate in the 2010 Census? Census data shape the future of your community and define your voice in Congress. • Census information helps determine locations for schools, roads, hospitals, child-care and senior citizen centers, and more. • Businesses use census data to locate supermarkets, shopping centers, new housing and other facilities. • Government officials use census data to allocate funding and grants to high- need areas and non-profit organizations. "The "Take 10" Challenge - Tools to Inspire the Mail Back Participation Rates for the 2010 Census During the 2000 Census, 72 percent of occupied households mailed back their forms. In 2010, we are challenging communities to do even better. ... MoreThe Census Bureau's "Take 10" campaign gives us a wide range of tools to inspire our communities to meet our challenge. These include: • An interactive, map-based, "Take 10" Web site that allows local areas to track and compare their 2010 Census mail back participation rates, which will be updated on a daily basis at http://2010.census.go..., and to look up their 2000 Census participation rates. • An electronic toolkit is available which includes talking points, sample speeches, new releases, newsletter copy, event suggestions, flyers, stickers, and doorknob hanger templates, and more. • Suggestions on how to use friendly competition with other communities to inspire participation in the census. We can play an important leadership role in encouraging our communities to mail back their forms. Most 2010 Census questionnaires are delivered from March 15-17, 2010. From the time the forms are delivered until the closing of the mail campaign at the end of April, we have the opportunity to remind our area residents of the importance of mailing back their census forms. You can encourage participation through speeches, special events, and challenges. The stakes are high; an accurate count of the local population helps to ensure that your community receives its fair share of federal funding. This funding includes resources for services, such as health care, education, and roads. Community Members must complete and mail back their census forms between March 15, 2010 and April 15, 2010. The good news is that the 2010 Census questionnaire is one of the shortest in history-just 10 questions that only take about 10 minutes to complete. We hope we can count on you to encourage participatation in the 2010 Census. Visit http://2010.census.go... now to see your area's 2000 Census mail participation rate and check the site daily for updates beginning March 22. The 2010 Census: It's in our Hands.
